The Grumpy Man Commercial

Many of my clients know that I am usually driving…  whether its work errands or being a chauffeur to my two kids, I spend half my day in the car…  This evening, my daughter wanted to listen to her new favourite radio station – Radio Disney and when I was searching for it I heard a funny commercial that really caught my attention.  As soon as I got home, I tried searching the web for it, but have not been able to find it, so I will try my best to explain this commercial.

It was about a grumpy middle aged man, who lived a ‘meaningless’ life and worked in a company with hundreds of others that didn’t know his name.  One day,  he attended a meeting with 150 colleagues, and his boss says to him – ‘Hey Champ, make me a cuppa coffee will ya’ and he does. (That gave me a little chuckle, cause I am the “tea maker’ in our office).   Anyway, at this meeting he was told that the next day he had to go out of town on a business trip.  He was happy, on cloud 9 they said.  Why?  Because he was going to stay at a Wingate by Wyndham Hotel… and at THAT hotel, everyone would know his name.  They would have *FREE WI-FI* and a comfy bed!  That’s right Free Wi-Fi, no mention of a pool, restaurant, or free breakfast even!  Free Wi-Fi is what people want these days; free Wi-Fi and a comfy bed.

A few years ago, people would under-estimate the necessity of free Wi-Fi.  If you stop and think about it, for a traveler, it is essential.  Whether it be from your iPhone, Blackberry, Laptop, Tablet, or gaming device you can access the World Wide Web… you can call home and speak to your loved ones, watch T.V. and movies, play games and  email reports back to the office or even shop (from that comfy bed!)

When I was looking for this commercial online to share with all of you I found out that when Wingate by Wyndham created this commercial, they had people write in about what is important to them and also share different tips for the business traveler.  There was a draw for an all expenses paid trip to NYC.  They had 5500 people reply.  It said that more than 85% wrote in about Free Wi-Fi… and this commercial is more than 2 years old…  I think the numbers would only be higher now, especially now that there are more devices that are Wi-Fi accessible now.

Travel and the want to travel is increasing – whether you are a Young Adult celebrating a University Graduation, or having a stag in Mexico, getting ready to go on your Honeymoon – if you have a young family or even if you are a Retiree… let me ask you – when you travel what do you look for in a hotel?

Busy, Busy, Busy!

What a busy week – TGIF! (Not that Friday means that much to us – we also work on  Saturdays and Sundays). This weekend PurePages will be in Vaughan working on the Homewood Suites as they are getting ready for their opening day!

Our Director of Sales has a plan to keep the Team very busy over the next few weeks… he has recently signed on over 10 new properties in and out of Ontario!  Congratulations Clyde!

This past week we completed our first property in the USA and over the last two weeks we have started in Alberta, and Saskatchewan as well!

If any of you know us personally, our Director of Technology’s famous saying is “Go big or go home”  so this past week instead of making that ‘splurge’ purchase of a chocolate bar at the gas station he decided to go out and buy a couple of vans!  I haven’t seen them yet, we are waiting for them to be  customized which shouldn’t take too long… so if you see a PurePages van pass by, be sure to honk and say ‘hi’!

For those of you who receive our newsletters, please let us know your thoughts.  If there is anything that has caught your attention and would like to hear more about please let us know.  Also, with this being said, please take a few minutes of your time to read about  Internet Usage.  We have been helping fight this for some time – there has been a lot of progress, but the fight is far from over.   Please read about it and sign the petition at:  http://openmedia.ca/vote    If we don’t do something about it now, we will all in turn pay for it in the future… literally.  Please pass this on to your colleagues, friends and family.

Enjoy the warm(er) weather this weekend and take care!
